The Approach
At Capital Dental Design, we use exclusively cosmetic composite resin fillings that match the natural color of your teeth. Unlike traditional amalgam, composite resin bonds directly to tooth structure, which increases overall strength and preserves more of the original tooth. When damage is more extensive, we may recommend inlays, onlays, or crowns to ensure the right solution.
The goal is always to maintain as much of your original tooth structure as possible. A filling done right today prevents a crown tomorrow.
Treatment Options
There are three primary treatment options for teeth with decay. Composite fillings address initial-stage decay. Inlays and onlays are ideal for moderate damage, created in a dental lab to fit precisely. Crowns are reserved for teeth with significant structural loss. Dr. Forbes will recommend the most conservative option that provides a lasting result.

Dr. Forbes evaluates the extent of decay using clinical examination and digital X-rays. He determines whether a filling, inlay, or crown is the appropriate restoration.
The area around the affected tooth is numbed with local anesthesia. Sedation options are available for patients who experience anxiety during dental procedures.
All damaged and decayed tissue is carefully removed, preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. The cavity is then cleaned and prepared for the filling.
Tooth-colored composite resin is applied in thin layers, each hardened with a curing light. This layering technique creates a strong, durable bond with the natural tooth.
The outer surface is trimmed, shaped, and polished to match the natural contours and bite of your tooth. The result is a restoration that looks and feels like your own enamel.
